The (Style) World’s Best Kept Secret

I will start off by admitting that when I was first tasked by my editor to cover the men’s portion of Seattle Fashion Week my level of enthusiasm was what you might expect from a death row inmate on his way to his execution. My past experiences of fashion weeks spent in New York and Los Angeles spoke to the reason why the word “pretentious” exist in the English Dictionary. The portion of the weekly shows dedicated to men’s fashion, while being extremely minuscule in comparison to that dedicated to …

Accessories That Time Forgot

While there are some trinkets of yesteryear that will hopefully forever remain abandoned from a man’s wardrobe — bell bottoms, bikini briefs and leather chaps, to name but a few — there are some hallmarks that have disappeared in the mid 20th century without any apparently good reason. There used to be items that any man could use to add a dash of elegance to his ensemble, or to reveal the spark of his individuality and speak to the confident nature of his personality. If the Shoe Fits

Thanks to my chosen avocation, I am often asked a myriad of questions from both the style novice and closet enthusiast, ranging from “what’s the best thing to wear out on a date” to “when do you think that booty out jeans are coming back in style for men?” I would strongly suggest against a Google search for that particular item, as the correct answer to that question is never.  The question that is overwhelmingly asked of me, however, is “I’d like to dress better but where do I start?” …

On Dress Shirts

There may not possibly be any paradox in men’s style quite like the dress shirt. While basic in its form it can be quite complex in its function.  It belongs not only as a staple in any man’s wardrobe, whether gentle or otherwise, but as a panacea for the ills of the style challenged amongst us. Arguably, there is no other article of a male’s clothing that can have as dramatic an impact on your appearance as the dress shirt. It can slim your appearance or draw attention to the …
