The beauty of the mold is you can keep trying since a typical bag of concrete will make at least 5 ashtrays. If you're getting cracking around the base try taking some solid wire, like an old coathanger, and placing it inside the concrete across the bottom before it sets. This will act like rebar and prevent cracking.

I’m glad to see you’re giving it a shot. I messed up in that I poured the quickcrete and bascially didnt have enough to cover the center block of wood so I bought another bag and added more and this formed a cold joint. So when I tried to get the block out of the center the whole thing fell apart. BUT I poured another one last night, one solid piece this time, and I'll see how it comes out and send a pic. Thanks again.

Well I tried and the first was busted. So it is in essence small pucks cut from the same dowel. A nice benefit of this is that you can use them to adjust the ashtray to ensure it sits level. Let us know if you build an ashtray, and how it turns out!

Hi BigMike, The same dowel that was cut in half length-wise to make the troughs for the cigars was cut into little disks and attached to the bottom. From the first pic it looks like there are 4 feet. Thanks again.

Love the article and thanks for the drawings.
